In documenting these man-made landscapes, I was first drawn by their outlandish scale, by their massive imposition upon the natural environment.
Though built only to satisfy our commercial needs, these ports are rarely seen or even considered by the consumers they serve. Their immense size and construction was dictated not by design value or impact on the waterfront, but merely by an ever-expanding need to buy and sell.
